“LEEDING” the Green Initiative in the New York Area
InterContinental New York Times Square is committed to the environment and has undertaken a number of green initiatives which contributed to its LEED certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), an internationally recognized green building certification system developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).
The LEED certification marks the hotel as one of the most environmentally responsible green hotels in the New York Area and the largest new-build hotel to achieve LEED status on the Eastern Seaboard. In many instances, initiatives are employed that go above and beyond those that are required to be an eco-friendly hotel.
Times Square's Buzzing Bee's
The InterContinental Times Square is buzzing with excitement due to the instillation of its beehive, located on one of the hotel’s green rooftops. This sweet addition of honey will soon find its way to dishes and cocktails produced by the hotel.
The beehive is just one of many green initiatives put in place by the hotel in its ongoing effort to continue its sustainable business practices. Come spring the green rooftops will also be cultivated to include not only the growing apiary but a fully-functioning herb garden, providing fresh ingredients from roof to table.
