InterContinental New York Times Square Gives Back to the Community for IHG’s “Responsible Business Day”

Management of new Times Square hotel join the Boys and Girls Club of Harlem in a day of service

September 27, 2010, NEW YORK CITY, NY – The new InterContinental New York Times Square, which opened its doors in July, has quickly embraced the InterContinental Hotels & Resorts mandate to sustain and enhance its local destination by participating in “Responsible Business Day” on September 21, 2010. In partnership with National Geographic's Center for Sustainable Destinations, InterContinental Hotels & Resorts properties regularly take part in activities that ensure their location remains an appealing place to visit for future generations.

Enthusiastic participants from the Times Square hotel headed to the Boys and Girls Club of Harlem for “Responsible Business Day”; the team members spent the afternoon cleaning sidewalks and streets throughout the Harlem Community. Not only did the project beautify the streets of New York, but it also gave the hotel staff an opportunity to connect with the local community as they work side-by-side with children from the Boys and Girls Club.

General Manager Drew Schlesinger had the following remarks in response to the event, “As both a new InterContinental property and New York hotel, participating in “Responsible Business Day” was especially important to our team. The event brought us in touch with the local community and allowed us to connect with our destination in a special way.” Participating staff from the InterContinental New York Times Square included Mr. Schlesinger as well as a number of management staff from the property. They were also joined by a team from the InterContinental New York Barclay.
